JOEL THOMAS KATZ is a poet and translator with a strong interest in language drawn from his study in linguistics, music, and other languages including Dutch, Hebrew, French, and Russian. Joel collaborates with Robert Perry of Dutch Poet Press in translating contemporary Dutch poetry havruta-style like study partners of Jewish texts.
Joel has published two collections of his poetry: Away through Mayapple Press in 2008 and Erase | Endure through Dutch Poet Press in March 2020. In collaboration with Robert Perry, they have produced two books of Dutch poetry in translation into English with essays: iets anders | something else and Vrije uitloop | Free range, both published by Dutch Poet Press in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
His poems have appeared in journals such as Sand Hill Review, The Montserrat Review, Disquieting Muses Quarterly, Spillway, and Red Wheelbarrow.
